: : Any suggestions?

: I was one of those people who, upon watching LOTM for the first time, was totally impressed by the performance given by Madeleine Stowe as she portrayed Cora Munro ... Who IS that actress??!!?? It was like Mary said to me, turning at the conclusion of Gathering III's showing on the big screen, "Madeleine Stowe is perfect! [in LOTM]" Having never heard of her before, other than a little local newspaper write-up of her & DDL during the filming, I proceeded to find out!

: Boy, was I ever disappointed. In my opinion, nothing comes close to her riveting Cora immersion. Perhaps her best performance [other than in LOTM] is in a little known, play-like film with Alan Rickman, called "Closet Land." "Stake-Out," with Richard Dreyfuss shows an early Stowe and is amusing enough. As is "The Two Jakes," starring Jack Nicholson ... a sequel to "China Town," actually. I liked "Blink." Hmmmm ... oh, "12 Monkeys" - bizarre as it is - I liked a bit ... with Brad Pitt & Bruce Willis. You can see Stowe as a teen-ager, portraying Mary, of all people, in the HORRIBLE, "The Nativity." The rest are pretty poor, also ... "Revenge," with Kevin Costner, several other BOMBS, whose names escape me at the moment. An actress SO obviously talented, continually churning out UNmomentous flicks ... one after another ...

: Makes me wonder about the REAL genious of Michael Mann!

You can see quite a bit of Maddie, to say the least, in
a Body Heat kind of thing she made with Ed Harris called
China Moon that wasn't too bad. She made a horrible movie
with Kenneth Branaugh called The Proposition, which was
notable only for the fact that it was filmed in Ipswich,
Mass., in the same place where DD-L made The Crucible.
Blink was pretty good, though she didn't seem to enjoy
kissing Aiden Quinn nearly as much as she did Hawkie-poo!
Sad to say, I think LOTM was her one great role -- and
probably a lot of that was due to working with DD-L and
Michael Mann. I remember reading a lot of stuff about her
on movies she did after LOTM -- she was rather actively
disliked by her co-stars on those movies and was considered
notoriously "difficult." Who knows? Too bad, though -- she's
a beautiful woman in any case.
