: You KNOW I can't resist any post regaling the many talents of my very favorite actor. He's astounding, isn't he? I loved My Left Foot, but though I thought him wonderful in Laundrette, I just didn't like the movie. I think it is the fact that I'm a sucker for visually lush cinematography, and that hand-held camera & grainy, porn-film look of Laundrette didn't do it for me. It wasn't the theme of the story, though some folks would find that hard to take. I actually thought the story pretty good. I just didn't like the look the thing. It has quite a following, I believe, so it's obviously just me. I don't care for The Incredible Lightness of Being, either, and that's one that many people just rave about. I WANTED to like it, since it has not only DDL but the wonderful Juliette Binoche in it. But as I have often posted before, my husband and I call it The Incredible Longness of Movie.
: But be that as it may, he is such a chameleon, our Daniel. The look of him changes so completely from one film to another, it's mind-boggling. And other than those 2, I think I've loved every other film I've seen him in, including the obscure ones like Eversmile, NJ, and Stars & Bars. Part of my fascination with his acting skill is that you cannot reconcile a Cecil Vyse with a Christy Brown with a Nathaniel Poe with a Newland Archer. The looks, the mannerisms, the voice, everyting...completely different.

I sure liked My Favorite Launderette; have seen it several times; but then Marcia and I do have different opinions of this movie! The Unbearable Lightness of Being....(Isn't that it, Marcia instead of "Incredible"?) (And you call yourself a loyal DDL fan! HA!) - now, after the first 3 hours of it; I was having trouble trying to figure out WHY the movie was made; but overall, do remember it fondly as an indredible movie! (But doubt I could sit that long again...). It's worth checking out if you have all night. DDL is definitely easy on the eye!
