: ...like somethin' from the oven, and Miss Marcia says it best!"
: la, la, la...hummmmmmm....de, de, lalalaaaaaaaaaaaaa..."

: What a lovely visit I had this afternoon with She Who Tracks and Miss Katie O'Arbroath. Both such entertaining ladies...though I use that term somewhat guardedly with She. Entertainin', sartain...but lady? Not so much! But she's a fine person, just the same, and very kind to offer to bring me back some vittles from her travels. And if it hadn't been for her ol' hound, Hector, roamin' around in the woods last week, why Miss Gaylee Cooper, all those squallin' younguns, and *I*, myself, might still be out there, lost and afraid. Thank goodness that dog's nose still works right well...yes, he sure does smell!

: Now, let's see what I can find to cook up for dinner tonight in my Famous DownHome Kitchen. My clientele will surely be hungry & be knockin' on my door before long.

: *opens pantry & stares sadly*

: Hmmmmmm...pickin's are getting pretty slim....a few jars & tins of things gatherin' dust in the far back corner...let's see....well, maybe I can do something with these two....

: !!!TONIGHT'S DINNER SPECIAL!!!

: Peanut Butter Salmon Surprise
: Mixed Greens (dandelions, pokeweed & chickory)
: Aged Smashed Taters (reallllly soft)
: Huckleberries au Naturale (all by themselves)

: !!!EARLY BIRD SPECIAL!!!
:
: An Early Bird!
: (found pokin' around the compost heap this mornin', species uncertain)

That was some fine dinner ye give me, Miss Marcia. Bein' as it's my last dinner in the settlements for a while, it's one I'll remember *burp* fondly for some time. Can't say as I could put a name to that particular fowl that was the basis o' yer Early Bird Special, but aside from overly tendin' toward small bones, it was a tasty morsel. That was real kind o' ye to save one o' yer Peanut Butter Salmon Surprises for Hector. He's more partial to peanut butter than any hound I ever knowed. Just wish he'd quit suckin' peanut butter outten his teeth (what's left of 'em). Hope that don't go on all night.

Well, I'm well-fed and well talked out fer the time, and tomorrow morning I'll be off in my canoe at first light. I'll send a message from time to time as the opportunity presents itself. Take care o' yerself now, and take heart - I'll bring back enough game to keep ye flush through the winter.

She
