: : : Ahhh, yeh, what's your point? Supposedly, the last woods bison in Pennsylvania was killed near Middleburg, PA in the early 1800s ( I believe). So the story goes. Pax Aye! Dr. Uncle Mark

: : My point? To quote a Talking Heads song, "Same as it ever was."
: : Whatsa matter, get up on the wrong side of the bed?

: : Elaine, it's never 'safe' to come out.

: : Victoria

: Sure it's safe to come out. Drunkle just has that kinda endearing personality like mine - so blunt they have a medical term for it in ER - massive blunt trauma!!

: I was driving with Bettygnome northward on I90 towards Wisconsin Dells and looked to the right on a farm and we saw bison all over the place. A farm was raising them! Was good to see bison on the plains again even if they were domesticated and likely being raised for meat. Wasn't the meat hunters who exterminated the bison - it was a calculated encouragement to slaughter them for robes and thus deprive the Plains tribes their basic lifestyle. We have had deer hunting seasons in this country for decades and there is no risk of extinction - in fact, it controls the populations so they don't take over the fields, and so they don't starve during the winter. I think that was what Drunkle was alluding to.

Doc M discovered a herd of them when she was driving
along a little windy country road a few miles away
from her house. It was one of those fall mornings where
the mist was rolling along the ground, and when my
feeble old eyes detected these massive brown THINGS
looking like they were floating above the ground
from 200 years ago I nearly drove into a tree.
I managed to get fairly close to the field where
they were kept to take a closer look. Magnificent
imposing things they are. My dream is to see them
running wild somewhere before I become totally
ga-ga. (I said TOTALLY, Gnomedome!!)
