: I would be redundant to say how I feel about the Gorge burning. Many have already expressed the heartsick feelings we all share. I feel better, though, when I know Mother Nature is the cause and not because of some stupid, careless blunder by man. Does anyone know yet what caused this fire besides extreme dryness?

I believe, but am not sure, that it was caused by a camper ...

: Rich, you're brave for going up to check on the Top of the World! Hope you'll be able to report some positive news.

I don't know about brave, I just feel like I have to see it for myself.

Positive news? Maybe, here's some ... Just got home from work. As I was leaving, one of the carriers who carries mail up to the North Cove area (near Massacre Valley) was returning. He spoke with a firefighter up there (they're camped in the Cove). According to this one firefighter, it's not scarred all that badly, indicating, perhaps, that at least in some areas mostly it was underbrush that burned. I really don't know ... hearing all kinds of stuff. That's why I've got to go up there.

Another thing, the smell of smoke is far stronger than it's yet been. I'm assuming that the dampness is causing the fire to smolder. And that's postively my last fire post for today!
