Well ... it certainly is NOT a myth, though one might have a very difficult time discerning that if one was only to read the little blurbs & E-mails circulating the Internet. The first Thanksgiving was, indeed, a real event. It was not a celebration of a massacre nor an
acknowledgement of the beginning of the end for the resident native Americans (funny, only a month earlier, we were hearing that was the work of Columbus! Fickle, fickle!). It wasn’t then; it isn’t now. Those are myths. It was a harmonious coming together of two vastly different cultures in the wilderness that was then early colonial America, sharing & giving thanks for their mutual survival. One can’t, thankfully, in this case, change the reality of what occurred, only how one chooses to perceive that reality. Here we have a real life example of what we all wish would be, yet there are those who would color it as something else to further their own self-serving ends. Creating a myth. So be it ...

To me, though, Thanksgiving will continue to be a celebration of the possibilities, and a time to reflect upon the things I have to be thankful for. I prefer it that way and see no reason to invite negativity into the feast!

So, any list of things to be thankful for, in my life, begins with my wife of 21 years, Elaine, the brightest, hardest working, and most honest woman I have met in my nearly 49 years on Earth. Through her, I have been blessed with nine children, all beautiful, all healthy, all mine. That is the essence of all I have to be thankful for. Thank God!

I could go on and run off a list of all the other things that should, but, alas, don't always, keep me from griping throughout the year, but will instead jump to the chase as it relates to ... here. I am thankful for having the God-given ability to put together, however unknowingly, this whole concept of MohicanLand ... whatever that is ... from book idea through Gatherings ... that has led to the meeting of so many I now call friends! Thanks for being here, sharing in the (mis)adventures, and I CAN’T wait to see the whole lot of you come June!

Happy Thanksgiving To All Of You! I'm thankful to know you!
