: DELAYED AGAIN -- BUT NOT DISCOURAGED

: Governor Hunt once again pulled the issue of the DuPont waterfalls property from the agenda of the Council of State meeting (Sept 19). Negotiations are clearly ongoing between the State and Jim Anthony, and the construction moratorium has been extended again as well.
:
: While we understand the sense of frustration that many of you have at the continued delay, Friends of the Falls is actually not discouraged at all. Why? The great outpouring of cards, letters, and emails from Friends of the Falls across the state has emboldened Hunt and his administration to take a much stronger stand than just a few weeks ago. Listening to Hunt's recent public statements, it is clear that his bottom line is a much fuller public access than Anthony's fuzzy proposal. Of course, FOTF believes that the best way to achieve this is the total acquisition of the property. But negotiations continue to determine if there is another way. We don't believe that Anthony can meet Hunt's demand for full public access. Why? Because exclusivity is the lifeblood of gated communities, and therein lies the value of the property to the Cliffs.
:
: So we continue to ask the Governor - in a positive way - to take the long term view and fix the whole problem, not just part of it. And, regardless of the outcome, your voices have definitely been heard in Raleigh, and have shifted the focus of the debate dramatically. Don't loose faith!

: So, the seemingly never-ending saga of the River Walk property continues! Please, don't let up!

: Ok, Chris, I haven't forgotten your request ... about the "On The Trail Of The Last Of The Mohicans" CD. Needed to think about it a spell ...

: What is it? It's a 2CD set, playable on PC's equipped with Windows Media Player ... if you have Windows 98, or Windows 95 with Internet Explorer 5.0, or higher, you definitely have it. There are 4 segments on the CDs, which run for approximately an hour and a half:

: 1 - Shelby, NC televsion spot promoting our book & the Web Site
: 2 - "The River Walk" ... video footage of all the DuPont locations
: 3 - "On The Trail ..." (2 parts) ... From beginning to end, the entire movie's locations (minus the River Walk - unavailable at the time of the making of this video, consequently, the segment above!), with the movie's actual soundtrack (with dialogue) & the CD soundtrack accompanying ... includes the book photos, as well.
: 4 - Eric Schweig displaying his Adoption Mask at the 1999 Gathering

: I had put together 10 sets of these CDs, originally on video tape, for a donation for Ariel's Cabin at the 2000 Gathering. All sold.

: Now, a request for more ... Here's what I'll do ... IF a total of at least 10 requests comes in, I'll run off another batch. Your choice: I'll sell them at $25 per set (I believe that was the Gathering price? Kate?) and donate the entire sum to Ariel, OR, I'll sell them to you at cost + postage, if you'd prefer not to donate. That figure would probably be at about $6 per set.

: These things include labels & picture jewel cases (front & back). Though the quality is good, they are most definitely NOT professional. The video that we shot (me & a couple of my sons, then 8 & 12) was done as a video notebook to my photographs while I was searching out the LOTM locations, to help reference them and/or compare to the movie to be sure I was in the right place. No thought was made of compiling them until well after the fact.

: If you're interested, e-mail me privately. If we can get 10 or more requests, I'll run off another batch.

: Ain't a lot to say this week ... The Site has been updated in many places, including the Board Archives, Traders' Post, Dispatches From The Frontier, & Musings, where a brief new musing on JFC awaits ...

: Did receive a glowing E-Mail that stood out among the rest that we'd like to share:

: "Hear ye. Having found your site a month ago, having been immediately
: welcomed, having had my questions both on the board and offline answered
: enthusiastically and fully, and finding myself logging on daily for a dose
: of data and good humor:

: I extend my wholehearted thanks and high praise for your creativity,
: management, and hospitality. Visiting the site and the board is like
: visiting friends.

: You've established an outstanding example of the best of www possibilities.

: Congrats and gratitude ..."

: Thank you! Till next time ...

Thanks for the weekly update, Rich. Enjoyed it as always!!! Please put Cecelia and I down 2 CD's at the $25 rate (contributions to Ariel are always "a good thing"). There was SO much going on at the Gathering, by the time I could have gotten to the sets...All Sold!

Loved the email! That's the perspective of most of us! I wish they all were of that flavor!

Also, thanks for posting the River Walk updates. I've been writing letters and will send out a letter to Sen. Robinson in the AM. I've signed up to help with Mike Easley's campaign as a way to thank him for his support in this endeavor. Any effort is worth stopping Mr. Anthony's development!!!!! It's a place I'd like to visit for MANY, MANY years to come. I am also awed by the perseverence of FOF. They are doing an outstanding job. Without their efforts, I'm afraid this would have been a done deal and a lost cause!

Have a great week all!
Diana
