Well, Rich, your subject line certainly caught my attention this morning. My heart sank when I realized you were serious, and that I saw myself in your comments. I visit your site at least twice a day, but I post rarely.
You forced me to think about why this is true. I'm a fairly reserved person and have at least average intelligence. However, if I have a logical cell in my brain, I'm sure it's lonely. I began losing arguments of logic with my daughter when she was 8. This becomes obvious in any confrontation, and so I avoid controversy at all costs. My strength lies in people skills, but on a board like this, I find I have no tone of voice, facial expressions, or body language to guide me in how I say things, so I tend to say nothing at all. Every time I think of posting, I wonder how what I write, and therefore I myself, will be judged. If I am one who has written you emails that should have been posts, I wish you had told me. With your backing, I might have gotten up my courage.
Besides my own shortcomings, I am absolutely overwhelmed by the depth and breadth of knowledge of the people on this board. There is no way I can add anything to many of the discussions. That doesn't mean I don't love reading them and learning from them. What expertise I have is in the Inuit and Cheyenne cultures, neither of which are very applicable here. I enjoy reading the tales of She and the MacWilliams and the others, but I don't have the imagination to create tales of my own. I tried once and it fell pretty flat, so I haven't tried since.
As far as shutting down the board goes, I would like to tell you that you should keep it open. However, seeing as I avoid posting for the very same reasons that you want to close it down, I can't very well say that. I do encourage you to delay until after the holidays. People are very busy, and as you said, postings always drop off now. As Adele told you, you have to do whatever it takes to keep yourself and your family healthy. If that means shutting down the board, then it should be shut down. But I'll cry.
Love to you all,
Chris
