: : I know it's a cold and snowy night, folks, and ye're all cosy by the fireplaces and have the kiddies tucked in under their Miss Katie quilts for the night, but we've got work to do!

: : I was just down to the river, and saw it's frozen over from bank to bank now - and guess what else I saw? She Who Tracks La Longue Carabine is acomin' home! She's pushin' her canoe over the ice with her paddle, and durned if that dog o' hers, Hector, isn't atowin' behind in his own canoe - lazy hound that he is!

: : Looks like She has her canoe piled high with pelts and venison from the hunt, but with the river banks a sheet o' ice, She'll never get up alone.

: : KNOCK KNOCK!! Miss Katie, gather up some warm quilts!

: : KNOCK KNOCK!! Miss Marcia, cook up some o' that stew and biscuits ye do so well!

: : KNOCK KNOCK!! Dr. Markus Well Bee, be gettin' some o' yer honey mead cough syrup bottled up and over to Bumppo's Tavern!

: : KNOCK KNOCK!! Dweebie, throw some more wood on that fire behind the bar, and break out the rum toddy!

: : KNOCK KNOCK!! Sassy Soothsayer, fly right to the Sachem and Sachemess and let 'em know we got a E-mergency at the river!

: : Simon Girty and Uncle Wiscone, you and yer various Injuns head down to the river with me - we'll haul She and Hector and the takin's up off the ice, and then head on up to Bumppo's Tavern for a little warm-up and the story of the Fall Hunt. Look sharp, now! Don't go wanderin' away in the woods jest when I need ye!! Work TOGETHER, ye hear????!!!!!

: *humming in the kitchen*

: "la, la, la...nuthin' says lovin' like somethin' from the oven, and Miss Marcia says it best!"

: Well, I reckon I'd better get this stew ladled into some big ol' gourds and other portable containers. Dear, sweet Benton says it will be needed soon to revive a near-frozen She Who Tracks. My, that gal has been gone ever such a LONG time, what with her trackin' & huntin' and such. I DO hope She's brought back a haunch or two of venison for my DownHome Kitchen, and some tasty George RoadKill Possum for the next stew pot. It seems like FOREVER since I've had some decent meat around here to cook up for folks in Mohicanland. It's been troublin' me, wonderin' what the heck I was gonna do for our traditional Christmas feast...what with no Roast Beast to prepare, an all.

: But I'll just bet She Who Tracks (half froze or not) will have some surprises in store for us. That's how She is! Never comes back empty handed, doncha know. Ummmm...smell those hot buttery biscuits! I'll wrap 'em up good in this square of calico, and heat up a big ol' crock of buttered rum, and head on down to Bumppo's to await the arrival of the rescue party. I know Red the Tavern Wench, will be happy to see us all comin' in tonight.

: Now if I can just get down these icy front steps without slippin' and breakin' anything I might wanna use again someday...

: *singing to herself as she trudges through the snow*

: "Oh, the weather outside is frightful,
: But Bumppo's fire will be so delightful,
: That is where I will gooooooo,
: and let it snow, let it snow, let it snow..."

MISS MARCIA! It's so good to see you trudging up the steps to the Tavern - here, let me help you with that load of baskets and bowls you've got there. My! you have done yourself proud. Benton just came in with She and Hector, and I must say, those two wanderers are looking mighty ragged and tuckered out. Bent's got them huddled over by the fire trying to thaw them out. She's got twigs frozen in her hair that must have been there for the last week, and Hector is a.ready sucking up his second bowl of hot rum punch.

Dweebie and Uncle Wiscone went down to the canoe to bring up the load of meat She brought back, and it's all frozen solid in one big lump - pelts and all. We may have to cook it all at once, or else turn it over to Doc Mary's Hurons to hatchet it apart for us!

Now, you just put those lovely smelling biscuits down here on the table - here comes Bent with a mug of hot toddy for you - oops, watch that patch of snow on the floor. Must have dropped off Hector's coat . . . careful! DON'T SLIP!!
