: Well, good to see my LAST Sunday's post generated some thought, some action, some positive result. Thank you, Marcia, Gayle, Kate, Christina, Adele, Mark & Vita for setting the record straight. Good idea! As I read back that post, I can see that I really had very little idea where I was going with it as I progressed. It wasn't until the week was passing by, and I had a chance to digest your feedback, that I started to get into focus. I think that with your continued awareness & assistance, the Board will be fine!

: Tried contacting the Doc, who reportedly would be in from time to time to check her E-Mail ... NOT! But, via Forest Runner, did receive this:

: "Doc Mary said for me to tell you, 'I'll get back there when I'm damn good
: and ready! Now, take your thumb out and get me my freakin' Christmas gifts
: via the U.S. Mail.'

: PS - Please don't make me ask her these things again. She told me she would
: hurt me -- with her widdle cast -- if I bugged her again about coming back
: to work. Sheesh! Touchy ain't she?????"

: Guess she's fine, then ...

: Here's some more from the Mail Bag ...

: POINT/COUNTERPOINT:

: "I really get riled up when people say they liked last of
: the Mohicans. You know why? I went to a book
: store to listen to Russell Means talk about his book. He said that when he
: was making the Last of the Mohicans the
: white people on the payroll of the movie treated them like sht. He said
: that the natives were put into trailers, many
: lived together while making the film. He said that their trailers were
: used as public restrooms. All of the white actors
: left their trailers in very gross conditions. They protested but nothing
: was done. It must have been bad if Russell Means would say that if he saw
: the director again he was going to knock him out. I wouldn't watch that
: movie if you paid me."

: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

: "On the hottest days he [Russell Means] would fuss at the production weenies because the indians were hot and might get sunburned, while we were in full uniform. When the extras were placed in campgrounds, he had them segregate the indians in a different campground. They had hot food cooked for them daily while the other received cold cuts. They had shelter if it rained. The others had only tents. They had a wide screen TV and a satellite dish. The others had none. They had elec. The others had a campfire. This is what came out of the "Strike for better conditions" deal. In my way of thinking, if you have to step on every other race to make your race better, then you are no better than the people who hurt your race to begin with. Am I making any sense here? We could never be equal, the indians had to have it better."

: Hmmmmm ....

: SOME E-MAILS OF THE YEAR:

: "My name is [NAME REMOVED], I am the daughter of Peter (Chief Make Up
: Artist) and I have just logged onto your web site. The piece you entered
: about my Dad on Last of the Mohicans, was really lovely so I just wanted to
: thankyou. I have printed it off and I am going to send it to him."

: "HI,
: MY NAME IS [NAME REMOVED] AND I JUST WANTED TO SAY THANK YOU FOR THE
: WONDERFUL ARTICLE YOU DID ON MY GRANDFATHER, MIKE PHILLIPS.
: HE PASSED AWAY LAST YEAR DUE TO A HEART ATTACK AND I EXTREMELY MISS
: HIM. I WAS VERY PLEASED TO SEE HIS PICTURES POSTED UP ON YOUR WEBSITE. IT
: TOUCHED ME DEEPLY WHEN I SEEN THE MEMORIAL YOU PUT UP OF HIS PASSING AWAY.
: THE MUSIC THAT IS PLAYED DURING READING HIS INTERVIEW IS ALSO VERY
: HEART-WARMING.
: I VISITED YOUR WEBSITE IN THE PAST AND READ THE WHOLE ARTICLE THAT YOU
: DID ON MY GRANDFATHER, I WAS PLEASED TO SEE THAT IT WAS UPDATED SINCE
: (MEMORIAL).
: IT HAS ALMOST BEEN A YEAR SINCE HIS DEATH AND I JUST WANTED TO SAY
: THANK-YOU FOR THE MEMORIES."

: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

: WHAT'S NEW? All kinds of little things ... but, you've got to seek them out, if you want to know! One note: We've been having some technical difficulties adding more Real Media video, etc. There is a new one this week, but damned if you can view it! We got our "tech people" on it ... maybe soon ... We do want to add a Music Room, where you can listen to the soundtrack(s) as you browse ... maybe soon ...

: YOUR HELP REQUESTED: We have plans to put up a map with hot spots ... it'll be a French & Indian War map, with battle sites marked. Clicking on each "spot" will link to a narrative of that event ... i.e. Clicking on Fort William Henry might take you to the "Seige & Massacre" page of our Site. It could turn out to be a fairly ambitious project, so ... We invite your participation. Pick a topic (events only, please) ... Braddock's Defeat, as an example, or maybe Jumonville Glen, your choice. Write up a little essay or extended paper. Submit it. We'll add it to the Site. A couple of points ...

: 1 - Once you decide on a topic, please let us know, so we can avoid duplicates.

: 2 - All submissions become our property (though full credit will be given), and are subject to our editing, if necessary. Not only will we check the submissions, but it will be run by Site Historian, George Bray for his approval ... as we do even with our own history pages.

: 3 - Format can vary ... doesn't necessarily have to be a straight essay. Be creative!

: Anybody interested? Let us know. If not, we'll have to do it all by our little ole selves ... and that might take awhile!

: CHARTING LOTM TERRITORY: Very glad Chris brought that up. C'mon, especially those of you new to the Site since that page was initiated a year and a half ago(???) ... There MUST be some Mohicans place names somewhere in your neck of the woods! Send them on ... See: http://www/mohicanpress.com/mo06051.html

: GATHERING NEWS: None. Everything's progressing nicely. Oh, last week we did add a 4th survey, so ...

: Thank you to all who have purchased items from our Trading Post, including the Cafe Press items (mouse, T-shirts, mugs). It is most appreciated!!!

: I guess that's for that. Have a great final week before Christmas!!!

: Well, OK, here's ONE new thing ...

Rich! Rich! If you're going to lead off your weekly updates with pictures like that, PLEASE post a warning. Here I am, late afternoon, fightin' off a cold, dealin' with a broken car, stressed out and under-caffeinated, just checkin' in to see what I've been missing on the board, and WHAM! I get hit with Hawkie Poo in all his chest-showin' glory. Not that I'm complaining mind you, it's just hard to find smelling salts in these parts....
yours,
Christina
