: Last evening as I channel-flipped, hoping to catch a bit of mindless entertainment to lull me to sleep, I happened upon a 1985 Al Pacino movie about the American Revolution entitled (as one would guess)"Revolution". Good as any for bedtime watching I figured, and I might see some interesting costume designs. Well I got caught up in it and saw some interesting parallels with both "The Patriot" and LOTM. Basic plot - pacifist Colonial father turns heroic fighting man after Bristish capture and torture his son (familiar?). LOTM connection - pacifist father fights as a scout, accompanied by his Huron (okay, there ARE some differences) friends, who had helped him to rescue his son. One of the Hurons, incidentally, was played by Graham Greene. On the whole, I was quite impressed with the movie...its character development and realism were far superior to The Patriot (ever notice how clean everyone and everything was in The Patriot? Even mud-smeared and bloody Mel somehow looked so clean...in Revolution even the aristocrats looked like they hadn't bathed in months...which was probably closer to actual conditions!) In several ways Revolution seemed a precursor to LOTM...the director was particularly fond of waterfall background shots, as well as having his characters in their scout dress walking up and around falls areas. I can't help but think that Michael Mann saw this film several times before he embarked on shooting LOTM.

: I can't speak to the authenticity of the battle scenes or the uniforms (perhaps one of you can address that issue), but the battles and their aftermath...the wet, the mud, the fatigue, the death, the attitudes of those who fought the battles...seemed quite authentic to me.

: So, if you get a chance, catch Revolution...I believe it is in a limited, occasional run on Cinemax. And if this movie has already been thoroughly discussed and analyzed on this Board, I apologize for bringing it up again! I don't get out much....

Lady Ann,
I caught about 3 minutes of this; thanks to a well trained hubby (hey, one of your kind of movies are on!) but couldn't watch it due to circumstances beyond my control; at least now I know the name of it.
To my knowledge, it hasn't been discussed on the board at all, unless my memory is getting really bad.

Jo
