Corporal MacWilliam,

Angus and I have arrived at Everett's Notch. This is an amazing place. It reminds me so much of home, except for the abundance of trees. Karl has made his place on the highest point of the Middle Ground ridges. One can see a great distance in all directions, which was disheartening last night. We could see great fires burning to the west. Angus says that it must be Red Leaf and his horde of savages laying the torch to unsuspecting settlements.

Mr. Everett is taking his flock east to escape the possible loss of his ewes. He has three dogs that herd his sheep, and keep them from straying. They are the most fascinating of animals, black and white coated, and "have the eye"....as Karl puts it. He calls the breed "Collie", and says they come from the Lowlands Border Regions of our homeland. He has even given them names......Cap, Jip, and Glenn. Such wonderful companions they make.

We will move on from here to the south in a day or so, depending on Red Leaf's movements. We will make sure Mr. Everett is away safe, then head for The Loyalhanna Creek and the 77th.

until next we meet,
wee John
