: It is, and a good question. One we are often asked, sometimes in ridicule. I answered this on the Web Site a while back, so I'll quote from my previous posting as I still feel the same way ...

: "Good question. Very good question! A question whose answer comes from within, and so may vary greatly from person to person. I can only speak for one ... myself. The genesis of The Great Mohican Gatherings occurred humbly during some lighthearted frolicking on our Mohican WWWBoard several years past. It was a notion thrown out there that very well could have gone unnoticed, overlooked in the sheer madness of the day. It didn't. It was picked up on, elaborated upon, fine tuned upon, and very spontaneously, took on an almost cosmic  life of its own ... full of vigor, freshness, excitement, and a good-spirited sense of cooperation. It was grand. A band of Internet friends took an idea, molded & shaped it & brought it to its real-life fruition! All without ever having met before. We depended upon one another to make it work & work it did ... kinks, bugs, and all. It was an event that was borne of trust. For me personally, in addition to all that, it was a notion come full-circle ... an idea come to be realized ... a second time. First, I had published a book to guide folks to the stunningly beautiful locations used in The Last of the Mohicans. Now, through the startling effects of the Web Site created to expose people to that book, I found myself unexpectedly able to personally TAKE them there! That is the essence of the Gatherings for me. That is how I would always want them to be."
