: : OK - cut that woman off. It's "Bumppo's" Tavern. Can't she spell???????

: ~~~~~

: Dear Sarah,

: In the famous words of James F. himself, "BUMPPO'S SCHMUMPPO'S!!" Where the heck did he find such a silly sounding, hard-to-spell name, anyway!! *me, muttering to myself, "Two pp's or two mm's...which was it, again?? Aw, dangit! What difference does it make anyway? I'll just throw in a couple of each & be done with it!"*

: MMMM

Dear MMMMarcia,

So pleazzzzzzzzzed to see you are determined to get the spelling right. Actually, the hero's name was originally supposed to bee Beau Brummel, but Cooper was unsure how many m's to put in Brummel. He started out with two b's and two m's, and accidentally smearing the ink with the lace from his cuff, he found he could neither read nor spell the resultant name, so he said "The Hell with it!" and named his hero after a Madagascar rum concoction called "bumboe", and spelled it the way he thought it sounded. This is referred to as a "Serendipitous Accident of Art". Don't complain. After all, he could have named him Whoopi.

Always at your service,
