Hey guys! After working on a short report for one of my classes detailing a comparison between the LOTM movie and book, a few questions occured to me while watching the movie.. and I was wondering if you all might be able to help me out! Thanks in advance!! Here goes..

At the camp scene towards the end of the film, right after the Sachem declares the fate of Alice, Cora, and Hawkeye.. Magua retorts, calling the Huron of that camp dogs, women, etc. He does so in French, I think, not Huron.. what's the reasoning behind that, since he seemed to only speak in French before that so the Major could understand? I wondered why he wouldn't have said such an insult in the native language..

Also, when Duncan offers himself in place of Cora.. that suspenseful scene where the Sachem agrees to this offer. Does anyone know what the Sachem actually says when he agrees to this? Something I've always been curious about.

And finally.. on the subject of Duncan's translation of Magua's speech from french to english. Were educated British soldiers of this time often fluent in French? I was also wondering if that would be the case with an educated woman of Duncan's class, such as Cora or Alice..

If anyone could help me out with these questions, that'd be wonderful- if not thanks anyway, and I'll continue to read through the site (found the sections on LOTM history really interesting so far!!).
