: Well now, I don't know if it originated from here, but I know Brits are certainly said to EAT it! I know that they give it to babies, as a 'trainer' food - get them used to 'real' food. (Argh!!) But to be honest, I don't know of any 'grown-ups' that eat it!!

I have no idea where it originated, but you can buy vegemite/white bread sandwiches from street vendors in Cairns. My son (who is still alive, believe it or not) bought one for me, and like a fool, I took a huge bite. Gag! Retch!! Almost barf!!! He thought it was oh! so funny! I will get even.
