Can Anyone Tell Me?

Again, in preparation for the Gathering and 'Saturday Night at the Movies', I have been doing my homework and swotting up on my general knowledge re: THE BIG MOVIE (just in case 'you-know-who' asks questions!!) and I decided I just HAD to ask a question that has been bothering me for some time but was afraid to ask (I HAVE been looking over the various pages on the site but can't find any mention of it)...

Were 'Sharitarish' and 'Ongewescone' REAL people - real Chiefs? I assume they are Chiefs as it is they who make the decision whether to stay and fight or to go. (I have been assuming they are using the 'royal we' - that they speak for the members of their tribe.) I'd really be interested to know.
