Hiking NC over easter holiday anyone?

howdy all! I've been planning on heading south over easter break - ready for some WARM weather...I had heard last of the mohicans was filmed in NC and jsut checked it out tonite and so am considering western NC as opposed to the coast - ANYHOW - has anyone hiked this area before? would you reccommend this for a solo hiker? thanks for any tips!
