: I belong to a re-enactment group who betray the American Revolution. We are as historic as we can be, we also HAVE to wear wigs. I have decided to grow my hair long as is will look total authentic. We are going to an 18th century Ball in October. As we are all going as officers, I will need to have the curls. What was the method used in Last of the Mohicans, and is their a method that stops them falling apart as Duncan's always seem to fall apart as with the rest of the Regiment. Silly question I know!

: Many thanks

Hello Ben,

The simple answer to your question is wear an "invisible" hairnet....one the same color as your hair, or a transparent one. (Wal-Mart has 'em.) It is acceptable and will work fine. Duncan's fell so much because of the stress he put it to, whereas the other officers did not.

I wear a wig on occasion, and I can tell you...wig or real hair...they are a pain! Once you are "coiffed" the way you want it, unless you have a hairdresser at your side, use the hairnet...trust me, you will be glad you did!

An officer, you say...be sure to wear the right number of rows of curls!

One more word of advice gained through experience: Stay away totally from hair sprays. Use a pomade to make it stick together, then dust it good with talcum. I am assuming your wig is white?

Pax aye!

Seamus
