As a follow-up to Diana's post on the C-Span show about James Fenimore Cooper, here is a notice sent out to JFC Society Members by Hugh MacDougall. The professor and author mentionned in the notice, Alan Taylor, wrote the absolutely excellent book "William Cooper's Town", which tracks the history of the Cooperstown region. I am really looking forward to hearing him speak - he is a very witty, as well as incredibly knowledgeable academic. Any of you who are interested in learning more about the originator of Hawkeye might enjoy the show.

Dear Cooper Society members,
Just a brief reminder that the C-Span American Writers segment on James Fenimore Cooper (And "the Last of the Mohicans") will air on Monday, April 23 at 9am ET on C-SPAN. This is a live program and viewers are invited to phone in questions to C-Span's experts. These will include Alan Taylor and, I believe, Henry S.F. Cooper, Jr., but I don't know who else at this time. I know that C-Span will be glad to have Cooper Society members phone in questions.

There will be a repeat telecast on Friday, April 27 at 8pm ET on C-SPAN. Viewers at this time may also join a "chat room" on the American Writers website (www.americanwriters.org ) and "type in" questions to the schedule expert (who, as of this message, will be me), and receive immediate typed responses. This chatroom is scheduled from 9-10 pm.

The New York Times is also planning an article about the program and Cooper, which I expect will be in the Sunday Arts Section, maybe on April 22.

A Happy Easter to you all

Hugh C. MacDougall
Secretary/Treasurer
James Fenimore Cooper Society
