: Interesting trivia you're coming up with, Diana! Good job! NOW, for the Kanipe thing ...

: : TO RICH: I also came across a trivia fact that the only survivor of the Battle of Little Big Horn, Dan Kanipe, was from Marion, NC. I'm sure you knew that, though. The neat things you learn when you just have a little time on your hands....

: I sure do know about this guy. His house still stands & here's buried right here, as well. See my "Against All Odds" Kanipe article (link below).

: Here's another bit of personal trivia. During the Battle of the Little Bighorn, we all know that the battalion of soldiers (5 Companies) under Custer's immediate command all perished, right? Well, hold on! As the Battle progressed, Custer dispatched 2 couriers to Webb ... no, no ... to Benteen! ... to hurry on the rest of the Regiment. These two survived. The first was Kanipe, buried where I'll probably end up croaking, Marion, NC. The other, an Italian immigrant by the name of, Giovanni Martini, rests in Brooklyn, NY ... my birthplace.

: No wonder I'm obsessed!

Cool coincidences, Rich. Now how did I KNOW you had all the low down on this fellow. Thanks for the link to your article, neat stuff. I LOVED the pictures! You never cease to amaze me!

Di
