: I found this board after reading JFC’s books, (Deerslayer and LoTM), to discuss these and the period history, but I have been thoroughly impressed with your enthusiasm for the movie and have vicariously enjoyed the gatherings.

: It seems some are talking about the gathering as being the last, and that would be a shame, as I’m afraid interest in this page might wane as well. It also seems that you are yearning to become a re-enactor’s society, dedicated to the period, (while, of course, keeping your love for LoTM at the forefront) …. Why not do so?
: You do such a fascinating job in your correspondent reenactments on this page; it’s the next step. It seems some here are eager to don the “wench and breech-clothe” look, and I’d bet the rest only need a good excuse. :-)

: If meeting at the movie site is getting stale, why not elsewhere? The Glimmerglass? Fort William Henry? The real LoTM Country? You can always return to the movie site in the future.

: I know I’m an outsider here, but great-googli-moogli, I would sure hate to see this all fade away. Such an expansion in the scope of your society sure would keep the interest fresh…. And it sounds like it might even inspire health and vigor.

I don't know what to say, Duncan!

John, we appreciate your input, however ... this board is actually an interactive extension of our Web Site. I don't know if you've had a chance to browse around, but it's quite large & covers a lot of territory. Film Locations Guide Book, History, Musings, Photos, Interviews, Satire, etc. Even a periodical to report on it all, The Courier.

While the board serves a useful & fun purpose, it's one small section of a larger, broader endeavour.

The Gatherings have been a lot of fun, to be sure, but they, too, have been spawned from the Web Site. Interest wouldn't wane by Gathering Closure since these events are pretty much like icing on a cake that was baked and served already. 90 somewhat people attended this year's gathering. Thousands visit our site. Can you see my point?

As fun & exciting as gatherings have been, they have never been the purpose or ends of our work on the web site. People come for different reasons but the VAST majority of our visitors obviously have not attended a single gathering. Soooo ... the gathering may or may not happen again but the web site & interest in it continues.

I'm not sure I'd agree the Film locales are getting stale. That has been the primary purpose of each year's event - to meet and visit these sites. We add, drop, adjust the itinerary but the film sites remain the core purpose. We have, at times, thought about the possibility of a New York Hudson Valley gathering ... since the historical locations would be an interesting base camp. Who knows?

Re-enactor society; we sure do have a lot of re-enactors who visit, post, write, share, & play. (Not to mention an entire History section.) However, there are many who also visit, post, etc., who aren't at all interested in re-enacting. It's a pretty broad, highly diverse group of people who use this board & visit the web site for a myriad of reasons. We try to accommodate all of them.

We appreciate your input & invite you to look around the Site some more. Hopefully, you'll find it really does have broad appeal.

Thanks, John.

Elaine
