: : Want to talk bloody butcher? Wanton Indian Killer? Let's bring up Colonel John Chivington. Who? Funny, the man was the "Custer" so many envision, yet who's ever heard of him?

: : Ok ... another BIG HUG!

: Oh yeah, I know THAT name! There was a completely insane, racially bigoted, cold hearted jerk. Wasn't it he who, on being questioned by one of his subordinates about the wanton killing of children and babies during his attack stated "nits make lice"
: and encouraged the massacre of them all. Sadder still, he was welcomed back into his home town as a hero. Much later, he was vilified when the true story came out. But I don't believe he was ever tried for the murders - as few were back then for killing Native Americans without cause. I know the name Rich.
: He WAS a complete coward. And a mass murderer.

Well, every story has its other side, but ...

As for the nits comment, I believe that was little Phil Sheridan - one of Custer's superiors, by the way, all through his military career. Chivington's famous quote was, "I stand by Sand Creek," years after the fact. He was, eventually, invited back to Denver, as a "hero," and lived out his days there.
