Hi Scott ...

Your surmising is correct. That is why we deleted the thread.

Let me explain, just a little. First of all, yes, we honestly did perceive a marketing ploy was in progress. First someone asks, then you introduced the company, then, the next thing we know, the company is here plugging their merchandise (however related to this site's content it may have been). Consequently, we pulled the thread.

That said, your explanation sounds entirely plausible. Judging from your other posts, you have a genuine interest in the life & times of the era this Board is devoted to. You are obviously intelligent & well-read ... you are most welcome to utilize this Board. No hard feelings, I sincerely hope!

You must remember, this is a discussion board, not a marketing tool. We fight that off every single day with a flood of posts selling "you-name-it" from Taiwan. Our general policy is to delete commercially oriented posts.

We've also been subjected to every crackpot imaginable over the course of our existance ... we have become necessarily jaded in some respects.

At any rate, we are happy to hear all commerical ideas, just not here on the Board. Money is not the issue. We have links to some vendors. Our Trading Post sells items, not all our own. Too, we do courtesy stuff, as well. Barzso Playsets ran an ad on our site for a couple of years for their LOTM playset. It became their very best selling playset ever. Sold out now, but we never made a dime (they did give us a free playset, however). We still run promos for Mark Baker's book, "Sons of a Trackless Forest," & for David Wright's prints. Never asked for, or received, a penny in commission. Wright did donate a print for this year's Gathering Raffle, but that was an unrelated matter. He simply did it. We will soon be doing something similar for a new book out about Fort William Henry. My point is that there is a time & a place for merchandising, right here on this site, but the Board is not that place. We don't go elsewhere to plug our book(s) and stuff; we don't expect others to come here to promote theirs.

I realize, after reading your explanation, that this incident occured innocently & quite naturally. Just one of those things ... Hope that "clears it up any."

: A gentleman named Steve Sipes(?) posted a query as to where he might obtain a replica of the tomahawk used by Daniel Day-Lewis in LOTM.

: The title of his post was something like "Movie Props".

: I responded to his post, saying I wasn't aware of a commercial replica, but that the nicest hawks I've "seen" produced by RMJ Forge, and posted an image from their site.

: I made it clear that I had only "seen" them on the internet, and haven't handled them, but have had some favorable info about them.

: When I checked back later, the proprietor of RMJ forge had responded with yet another posting of a hawk image (presumably one that resembles the movie hawk) and a statement as to the cost of forging a similar tomahawk, and contact info.

: My assumption was (unless RMJ is a Mohican Board "lurker") that he had responded on the basis of his server stats reflecting the fact that I had posted the image, and perhaps showing some 'hits' coming from this location.

: When I came back this evening, the thread was missing, presumably deleted.

: When I came back this evening and couldn't find the thread, I was a bit dismayed.

: Frankly, my first thought was that RMJ's post on price, availability, and contact info might have been regarded as a commercial intrusion.

: I reviewed the guidelines above, and didn't find anything specifically addressing this, but I suppose the "agenda" caution might be applicable.

: In any event, I'd like to make some things perfectly clear:

: 1) My response to Steve's query was in good faith and intended only to provide what information I have available.

: 2)As I stated in my post, I have absolutely no connection with RMJ Forge.

: 3) I would never, knowingly, subject this board to any negative intrusions.

: The last isn't in any sense meant to imply that RMJ's post was negative--far from it, I believe it was only intended to respond to the request that Steve had made.

: However, I can see where it becomes problematic to have commercial offerings made here.

: I submit this respectfully, and in hope of some enlightenment.
