John,

Ocean City is just south of Atlantic City. Where AC was "wet" i.e. you could buy booze, OC was dry and you had to go across the bridge to Somers Point and buy it and bring it back. OC was more a family resort town, while AC was more a glitzy resort town. The streets in AC by the way, were where Monopoly got its street names. The railroad names came from roads that serviced the area. OC was about an hour north of Cape May, NJ which is a cute Victorian town with a much expanded beach from the last time I was there.

:Thanks Bill, we got unlucky that one time, but for the most part flying around in the Navy was a heck of a way to fritter away my 20's... you know, the time in your life when you are immortal and bullet-proof.... wouldn't trade those amazing days for the world, war and all.

: Is Ocean City near Little Silver?

: : Condolences for your squadron mate. Carrier ops is the toughest flying bar none. I have great respect for anybody who flew from decks.

: : Glad you got to see the GOOD part of Jersey. Up north close to New York it is kinda raunchy. But down south along the coast and in the flatlands.....it's beautiful. You can find isolated beaches and small Victorian towns, or you can go to mega-glitz beach resort towns like Atlantic City or the Wildwoods. Inland lots of roadside stands selling fresh corn, melons, tomatoes, beans, fruit. Has a great history to it also. Rev War battles,
: : shipping, shipwrecks, smuggling. And......that's where my Gathering 2000 roomies are from! Lovely people like your squadron mate.

: : : Bill R,

: : : My only opinion of New Jersey onc came from jokes (i.e toxic waste dumps..etc.) until we flew an E2C Hawkeye out there in 92 for a funeral of a beloved squadron mate who died in a carrier launch mishap. He was born and grew up in Little Silver NJ, and I can now see that his environment certainly had an effect on how beatiful a person he was. New Jersey, (outside of the stretch bording NY) took my breath away. And the coast.... he was Irish... Tom Waterbury was his name... and the wake was at a pub called "Donavan's Reef." The beach was glorious, the people were wonderful and profoundly changed my perception of that beutiful state.

: : : Best,
