: My dearest Kate:

: Ahhh, Bushy Run deserves a big box of tissues. I would have many tales to tell of the place...on the ridge opposite of where we set up camp each year (most likely on the same spot where the canvas was put in a square with the officer's tents in the center in 1763), there have been soundings done. Archeologists and historians believe this ridge to hold the bodies of those who died during the two day battle of Bushy Run. (This ridge is opposite the ridge where the battle raged on Aug. 4 and 5 of 1763 and is depicted in Griffing's famous paint of the Battle). Therefore, the remains of our fallen comrades, of the 77th and 42nd (all Highlanders) probably lie in that spot. Each year our regiment holds a remembrance on that ridge. We march to the top with drums and flags, stand in a circle, and say words of remembrance, each of us taking a quaff of Scotch from a quach in honor of our fallen bretheren. The last quaff is poured on the ground for those souls. There is a feeling there, which only those who understand can feel...and there are stories ...which I will not tell, for they are only meant to honor those who came from Scotland, never to return. Thanks for your kind words, kinswoman Kate.

Oh, Dr. Uncle Mark, how sad. I'm sure there is a feeling there. Will they be doing any digs or will that not even be a consideration? I would think that those souls should just stay as they lay. I look forward to hearing this story, but like Kate, I will have my hankies handy.
