Rich,
Here is a small excerp about the movie. ..."the movie is based on the general's (legendary commander of the U.S. Army, Lt. General Harold G. Moore) book, "We Were Soldiers Once and Young", a gut-wrenching narrative that chronicles Ia Drang, one of the most savage and significant battles of the Vietnam War." Mel Gibson is cast as Moore, Sam Elliott plays his sergeant major, Basil Plumley, and Madeleine is Julie Moore, the General's wife.

I don't know who the director is, but I challenge him to do a better job with her than Mann. I agree totally with you on that one. She was truly magnificent in LOTM.

: : Thought some of you might be interested. Madeleine is featured on the cover of the September issue of "Cowboys and Indians" magazine. The feature article is about her ranch in Texas with some really nice photos of her. The photos of the ranch, however, are from a distance and there are none of the interior. The only mention of LOTM is the fact she was in it and it listed DD-L as one in a long list of leading men. She has a movie coming out in 2002 with Mel Gibson called "We Were Soldiers". It's about Viet Nam. Just FYI!

: Thanks, Theresa ... I particularly look forward to the Gibson/Stowe Vietnam flick ... Sounds promising! Stowe, I believe, is an excellent actress, though it is clear to me that Michael Mann has done the finest job of getting her to show her best!!

: Went to the "Cowboys & Indians" site ... unfortunately, they are still showing the previous issue. If you click on "What's New" (on the C&I site), there is a recap of the Stowe article ...

: "Fall 2001:

: Over the last ten years, Madeleine Stowe, 42, has earned a reputation as one of the Silver Screen's leading ladies by starring opposite such Hollywood heavyweights as Jack Nicholson (The Two Jakes), Daniel Day-Lewis (The Last of the Mohicans), Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt (Twelve Monkeys), and John Travolta (The General's Daughter).

: Cowboys & Indians traveled to her ranch in the Texas Hill Country for an exclusive photo shoot and interview with Stowe just days after she finished production on her two most recent films: We Were Soldiers, a Vietnam action film costarring Mel Gibson and Sam Elliott; and Avenging Angelo, a light-hearted Mafia spoof with Stowe cast opposite Sylvester Stallone.

: Plan on getting a behind the scenes look at Madeleine at home and on horseback at her Texas ranch in the September 2001 cover story of Cowboys & Indians."
