: : One month has passed. It seems an eternity.

: : Over here, in the USA, we were traumatized. The resulting bonding & patriotism has been a good, and healing, thing. We now wage war ... and we will win ... I feel we'll win decisively. That too will be a good, and healing, thing. The words mean what they say.

: : I am not naive enough to believe the rest of the world will all view it as such. I know different parts of the world will view things from different points of view. Understandable. I do believe most will, though, view it as a good thing. Certainly, I hope so.

: : As I said the other day, today I am proud of who we are. Very proud.

: : Stay cool, folks - all opinions are welcome, but be cool.

: ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

: Well said, Rich...well said. I have been biting my tongue until it bleeds. Thanks for saying this...............it has saved me from permanent damage!

: I do find it interesting that anytime someone "over there" gets in a bind economically, militarily, or whatever....who do they come to for help? Uh-huh...you bet! But, yet, some of those who have historically been the benefactors of the most generous aid are the first to spew venom. I guess that's human nature...or something.

: Pax aye!

Ok Seamus...to this post...I will bite. First of all....WHO exactly is spewing venom? Because I am SO missing the venom here......Secondly, I would like to remind you...that in the current trauma....which country is asking for support? America. And from whom are they asking (and getting) support? Britain, along with many other Western countries. This is not a one-way street and it never has been, and there is nobody who can honestly take a look at their own country and say it is blameless. The USA may have historically helped many countries, but they have also funded terrorism.....just like most other countries. Nobody and no country is blameless and before we make sweeping generalisations, we should remember that. Receiving aid from a country should not automatically exclude us from being allowed to voice an opinion about that country.

We ALL have to bite our tongues sometimes....but....if we could just think carefully about what we say....and not rush to the defensive when someone dares say something remotely different to our own opinions, we could learn a lot from each other.

Whilst Ilse and I were sitting in an airport lounge on our way to the gathering, she pulled out a book which was all about European countries and each country's uniqueness (was it a Bill Bryson book, Ilse? I can't remember...). Anyway, we were falling about reading it...there were so many wonderful observations...most of them true. Why was this book not offensive? It picked out countries and highlighted the different ways and behaviours of the residents. The reason is...because it CELEBRATED our differences...it made the reader aware of the differences in cultures and invited us to laugh at our own uniqueness. Get my point?!

Ok...nuff said I think...

Adele (did I stay cool Rich? did I? huh? huh? huh?!)
