Vince,

This is an outrage. I really hate to hear it. The Red Cross was wonderful to us when we lost Claude's mother in the tornado that ripped through Jefferson County here in 1998. They helped to pay for some of her funeral expenses and we received vouchers for food for his brother that was severely injured. All in all I believe the Red Cross is a good organization. It's those bums that took advantage of the situation. And, I do agree with you in that there is little supervision as to how the money is distributed. In this case, it seems to have taken on a life of its own. Perhaps too big to handle.

: Heard this from one of Debbie's co-workers - her neighbor, living in one of the apartment building close to Ground Zero bragged to Debbie's co-worker about what they were able to get away with the Red Cross. Since they had no place to live - all that they could find was a room at the Plaza Hotel ($$$$). The rooms alone cost $300 per night & they of course ate lavishly. As long as they had their receipts then the Red Cross will fully reimburse them since there were no procedures setup to limit or cap these kinds of costs. How can anybody stoop so low? Uggh!!! This puts a new twist to the meaning of the phrase "all donations go to the victims..." Meanwhile, the people who need the money like the pregnant wife gets only a $400 company pay check from her deceased husband's company. I guess that they still do not know how to properly apply all the money that was donated.

: I used to give but have since stopped donating to the United Way. Heard that most of the money people send go toward adminstrative costs (such as postage & advertising) and that one of the chief executive receives a hefty $300,000 salary.
