Hey Nancy,

We had a ball on that ship. Yes, it is docked in Mobile Bay. The battleship was presented to Alabama by the U.S. Government in 1964. Alabamians raised money to restore the 35,000-long-ton ship, which served in World War II.

We left Birmingham on Amtrak and visited historical sites in Mobile,Fort Morgan for one, took the ferry across the bay to Dauphin Island, and just had a grand time. This was when my daughter was 12, she's now 22. We still talk about it.

: That is so cool---staying overnight on the USS Alabama! The scouts must have had a great time! We never did that stuff when I was in girl scouts---we just collected dues, sang songs, and made paper angels.
: As far as sleeping where Steven Segal did---OK--I'll give you a point for a celebrity encounter!
: Now, where in Alabama do they dock the ship? On the coast in the south?

: We now have the USS New Jersey back here in New Jersey. I haven't gone to see it yet, but I will soon. I don't know if you can stay overnight in the ship---it's in Camden...! (pretty scary!)

: : Well, Nancy. I have spent the night on the USS Alabama. Had the run of the ship actually. They have a great program there for scout troups. You make your reservations and once the ship is closed to the public for the day, your troup takes over. We slept in the hanging cots, had pizza delivered and ate in the galley, played hide and seek (and that's some place to play that game). So, can we safely say I've slept where Steven Segal as slept? LOL!
