: My Dear Denizens of Mohicanland:

: As one of the Frantic Planners of the 2002 Gathering I need to take an unscientific poll of those residents planning to attend...but first, a bit of background: at the 4th and Final Gathering a number of folks approached me about organizing a competitive long rifle shoot for the Fifth and Final...using live ammunition, of course...and maybe adding in a tomahawk throw (gads! We are a bloodthirsty lot!)...and then there is the whips-and-chains exhibition (no, wait....that's Doc Mary's new office decor...sorry)and other feats of manly and womanly prowess. So I started looking into finding a location (easier said than done...you would be surprised how many places in North Carolina do NOT want a bunch of loinclothed and corseted Mohicanites running loose on their land with loaded weapons!) But with the kind assistance of the French Broad Muzzleloaders we have finally located a range (with both long rifle and tomahawk targets) that is amenable to hosting us. Rich tells me that it is about an hour's drive from Chimney Rock...so to get there after Thursday morning's event will require some car time. My question posed to you is, how many of you would like to participate as a competitor in any or all of the following events? a) long rifle/black powder shoot b) tomahawk throw c)footrace...in appropriate (or inappropriate) 18th century garb d) the Alice-leap-off-the-cliff (Note: use shorter cliff) e) reenactment of "The Kiss" (Management is not responsible for swooning, dissolution of marriage or spontaneous combustion caused as a result of competition in this event). Second question: if you don't wish to compete in these events, how many of you would like to watch them occur and thereby be willing to incur the inconvenience of travel to and from the event? Please email your responses, suggestions, etc. to me ASAP...or post them here if you dare. I need to get back in touch with the French Broad folks early next week, and it would be helpful to know just who is up for this and who is not...otherwise The MacLeod will be out there all by his lonesome blasting away at those helpless targets with his new Bill Rook's custom longrifle...

: And YES, sumptuous prizes...think wampum and brandy...will be awarded to winners....

: Thanks for your gracious help and assistance in helping us plan what will no doubt be the best Final Gathering Ever!

Dear Lady Ann,

I have a few small questions. Exactly why are you gathering 'feedback time'? What time frame are we hoping to feedback in. How does one gather feedback? Where will we feedback? And lastly, WHAT are we to feedback ... exactly?

I commend you for offering such exquisite entertainment possibilities during said Final Gathering and especially applaud your sound, logical advice that one should "consider cheating" in order to win any & all prizes. (One should also consider videotaping these competitions, with creative editing to be applied after the fact. You never know when you might have to blackmail a pesky friend.)

Regarding participants; Doctor Mary, modest & shy as she is, has privately emailed to inquire whether or not a contestant might be allowed to compete in the re-enactment of "The Kiss" with a 6'2" poster boy Hawkeye. (She swears "he don't eat much & folds up nicely in the black leather bag" she carts around.) Oh! One more question she had - can she be allowed to hand-pick the Alice Jump site????

Fine work, Lady Ann!
