I'm so glad you brought this up.

I fear I was quite remiss in recommending the movie without mentioning it.

The movie is rated R for "sexuality and violence".

There's only a bit of nudity, and I won't give it away, but I think most of the ladies here will appreciate it.

There is significant "sexuality", mostly in the love scenes between our hero and his wife. They're tender and not especially graphic, but parents may want view first.

There's a lot of violence in the form of stabbing, hacking and shooting. Including what many, including some in the business, consider the best movie sword fight ever. I'm sure any adult Mohicanite can handle it. But again, parents first. We're not talking about Zorro carving a 'Z' on Sergeant Garcia here.

Now for the big problem, one of violence of a sexual sort: There is a molestation scene (no nudity) which is crude and intended to be. More to the point, there is a rape scene. It is brief, but shocking in it's brutality. The brutality isn't so much a matter of what you see as in the almost casual use of rape as a weapon of war. It especially comes as a shock if you're watching the movie for the first time with your nine year old (at the time) son without any forewarning that there is such a scene, as was the case with me. A quick grab for the remote, but it was an uncomfortable moment.

So consider yourself forewarned.

The scene is dramatically and artistically justified, and is an integral part of the story, but it makes the film problematic for younger viewers.

Again, thanks so much for bring this up, Rich. I'd have felt very badly if someone suffered the embarrassing moment I did as a result of my recommendation. I'm fairly permissive in these matters, but their might be some out there who'd want to scalp me, and frankly I can't afford it.

: : There are very few movies that I feel any great desire to see more than once.

: : Of course there are those old classics that I'm alway happy to see when they come around on the tube. Old friends, some considerably older than myself, and that's saying something.

: : But there are very, very few films I've had any desire to personally own. A few of the films I've purchased for my son I'm attached to (such as Disney's "Jungle Book"--which of course is also one of the oldies from my own younger years).

: : But the ones I've outright purchased for myself can be counted on one hand, with perhaps a finger or two left over.

: : One of them, of course, is LOTM. It was the inspiration for my biting the bullet and going out to get a DVD player. Thank goodness I have my son to work it (he is now well past the Jungle Book age).

: : I can't believe I can watch this movie over and over again without tiring of it. It defies logic. But then perhaps some of you can relate to this.

: : Another one of the handfull is Rob Roy.

: : As with LOTM, Rob Roy didn't even register on my radar screen when it came out in the theaters. (I guess I was too busy watching the Jungle Book and Dumbo at the time.)

: : And like LOTM, I came to it through internet boards. In the case of Rob Roy, boards dealing with swords and stuff that have a strong contingent of kilted folks. Or people who wish they were kilted.

: : I don't seem to have the desire to watch it quite as frequently as LOTM, but it's much the same thing.

: : Guess I'm just wondering if I have any company out there.

: : (And if you haven't seen it, rent a copy. I don't think you'll be sorry. Unless your a Campbell.)

: Count me in as company!!! I love this movie, and except for its crudeness [making it unsuitable fare for my kids!], I'd rank it right up there with, or maybe even surpassing, "Braveheart". In fact - and I'm no expert, but from what I've heard - it is more historically accurate than it's "big brother" - as it relates to costumes & the like.

: At some point, there was a discussion here about this film. I can't remember what I might have said, but let me say now that I loved the cast - perfect in every way - the music - perfect in every way - and the cinematography - perfect in every way. Very similar to LOTM in those respects. Good story, well told, lots of action, and a generous dose of humor.

: Great flick!
