Duelling Banjos Terminated!

I recently had an innocuous-looking website lauch a pop-under window which did some not-so-innocuous things--i.e. downloading executable files to my hard drive when I wasn't looking.

I should have had "disable downloads" selected to begin with, so after I finished rooting out (I hope) the new files, I went and did that. While I was at it, I decided to set the "activeX" controls not to run without a prompt.

Well guess what. I came here and up came a little box asking me if I wanted to allow soft-ware such as ActiveX and plug-ins to run. I said know and the page loaded smoothly music and all!

(For those who missed my earlier post on this, every time I loaded this page it would seize up while two versions of the music would apparently struggle for dominance. It would go on forever and overwhelm the resources of my poor little cpu so I couldn't do anything else with the computer until the struggle ended. Cup of coffee time, as they used to say in the old slow computer days. Furthermore, if I were so unwise as to attempt to load two "musical" Mohican pages at once, it was browser crash time. Now there's a brief initial pause, but nothing like before.)

This has been bugging me for a year and a half or so.

Just wanted to share this small victory.

Hope Seamus sees this.
