: : O'siyo,

: : I really enjoyed Elaine's info on Girty's wife. I thought since I base my "renegade longhunter" persona in Caldwell's Coy of Butler's Rangers on ol' Simon. I hope y'all enjoy...

>>Siyo Victoria,
In what way? Its an interesting question, but they were actually much the same when they were in the wilderness, the lifestyle they embraced [Native American], the difference came to when white encroachment & warfare came to the land, they responded differently, Hawkeye chose to move on but got caught up in heroic events; Girty faced it head on, and was one of those "captives" you & Elaine mention, who never was the same after returning to white society [I'm sure he felt a real pull to "return" until he did], and who felt closer to his adopted family [the Wyandots], so when he switched sides to the British, he naturaly joined his Native brothers who had allied with the British.
Hawkeye & Girty were mirrors of each other in some ways, but the reflection Girty cast back was a dark one.
I wonder, if the Indians hadnt had a "beef" with the Kentuckians
& had instead fought the British, if Girty would be a "hero" today?
