: I realize all my posts are past the point of interest, since I'm having trouble getting as much computer access as I'd like, but I really wanted to post a response to this one. Simon Kenton is one of my favorite long hunter types. And I see all sorts of parallels between his life and that of Cooper's Natty Bumppo- moreso than Daniel Boone as a prototype, by far. Simon Kenton was much more the free spirit type than Boone was and more of the backwoods survival kind, too. I think he was great!

I would recommend reading "The Frontiersmen" by Allan Eckert. It tells the story of Simon Kenton in a very entertaining and readable manner. I was thrilled to learn recently that I am a descendant of his sister, Jane Kenton.:)
