: Hi All -

: We have archived the Board. See link above. I had left instructions yesterday morning, but our busy server guy couldn't get to it until earlier today. A couple of today's posts were caught over there, and maybe a few were lost, I don't know. Sorry 'bout that! Eric? Rebecca?

: Someone who'll be attending the '99 Gathering sent us an E-Mail a while back, during one of our sandstorms, and pointed out that if we just try to please ourselves, we'll inevitably please others. Good advice, and it just sunk in! Perhaps we have tried too hard to please everyone & accommodate all requests, deviating from our own vision and instincts in the process. We'll work on that.

: In that vein, I've decided to continue the Weekly Update, and in fact, broaden its scope a bit. Not only will it be a Site Update, but when the pickins are slim, it might just include a recounting of history, or bits of trivia from my travails during the film locations search, or whatever else I happen to feel like talking about. It's a way for me to keep the connection with you all. I doubt you'll all be interested each & every time, but we'll hope that SOMEONE will be ...

: As Eric said (inadvertently banished to the archives), we had a dandy of a day yesterday hiking around the Falls of the Little River. Sharon, Eric & I, plus a few kids, just wanted to get a bit oriented before the Gathering. It's been five years since I'd been there! What a treat is in store for all of you attending this year's Gathering! We started at Bridal Veil Falls, a double cascaded waterfall, seperated by a long stretch of river rapids that flow over a shear rock bottom that extends to the banks ... the River Walk ... at least the 2nd part, where Hawkeye utters the oft-quoted line, "Clear it up any?" At the upper cascade, is the area where Soldiers #1 & #2, plus the main cast, are seen entering the cave. Before last year, when Eric clarified this for me, I had always assumed that was part of the cave set. Not so! What a thrill to actually be able to walk behind the thundering falls. Got a tad wet, I did! Then, we headed up to Triple Falls, the scene of the opening segment of The River Walk and where the cast climbs the side of the falls. From the pavilion, a short distance away - where we'll be eating lunch - there's an absolutely splendid view. You'll love it! Things were a bit wetter than usual, with all the mountain snow runoff, and Sharon kind of slipped in a puddle. Of course, NO ONE laughed! Ha Ha! Then it was High Falls, a huge, big old waterfall. Not actually appearing in LOTM, the rock edge is. As Clannad plays, "I Will Find You," Hawkeye, Chingachgook, & Uncas run towards the camera up this steep slope. Finally, it was Hooker (Mills) Falls. At that location, we see the canoes actually go over the falls, between cuts of Linville Falls many miles away (and part of Day One!).

: I had to leave and return home as Eric & Sharon ventured on to Asheville & parts unknown. On the way home, driving through Hendersonville, I located the theater that will be showing us LOTM Saturday night (after we frolic at all those waterfalls). Looks great! A dramatic improvement over last year's quarters. The brick building was once a hotel. It is now "The Arts Center," and houses galleries, tea rooms, etc. The old ballroom is the movie theater. It's kind of like an indoor arts mall. There is a new glass sun-balcony type of structure added on. You can't miss it!

: And that's our scouting report for Day 2 of The Gathering! Surely, it whet (no pun intended) our appetites! I'll try to get some photos up in a week or two ...

As one who has asked for and luckily gotten a weekly update; I am glad to see them in whatever form they take!!!! But that "poster" is right, please yourself's, some people will never be pleased; however, it is always interesting to read on your thoughts and inputs!

Take care,

Jo
