Hi Ilse and Marcia!

I completely agree with both of you, and I can relate to you, Marcia, as my husband and I also disagree over the gun control issue. Those here in the US who favor the free availability of guns often argue that, if that availability were more restricted, the crooks would still have guns and only the law-abiding citizens would not. I think that is only partially correct, since those who would still have access to guns illegally would only be what I call the "serious criminals" or higher level criminals. That is, if there is a serious attempt at enforcing those laws, and not a black market on the streets as in some parts of Eastern Europe. One would need certain connections to buy illegal weapons, and it is not likely that the crazy teenage kid next door or even the gang kids would have those connections. Also, the generally "normal" citizen in the neighborhood, who suddenly freaks out because of some personal tragedy and goes shooting down everyone in his way, that scenario wouldn't be possible then, as wouldn't the child who shoots his friend while playing with Daddy's gun.

But I know, gun control isn't popular here in the big wide West, and even my dear husband owns a gun. Sigh!

Petra
