And speaking of moral guidance and communication in regards to better parenting, I forgot one other issue I'd like to mention: heredity vs environment. Yes, we need to be better parents, for sure, and establish good moral guidelines for our children. I have no doubt this would be a huge help in many, many instances. But I know from my own experience that two children can be raised in exactly the same environment with the same guidelines, same rules, same punishments, same religious upbringing (or lack thereof), same parental love and encouragement, yet still turn out as different as night and day. And not just in their respective personalities, but in much more profound issues such as their own moral and ethical attitudes toward life. I firmly believe that there are people who are *born* with no sense of connection with the rest of humanity whatsoever. In cases like this (and I think there are many), no amount of good parenting will stop the time bomb that's ticking away in their heads.

While we obviously cannot alter everything in our lives to ward off danger from these sociopaths, anything we can do to keep weapons of destruction out of their hands must surely be worth considering.

(The things that come to my mind while I'm making up the beds!!)
