Now this whole thread is a perfect example of what is best and most appealing.....even captivating and addictive....about the Board! I have not checked into the board in many many moons, but
reading this thread brought a nostalgic and pensive tear to the eye. Okay, that's a bit of a melodramatic and soapy statement I just made, but the fact of the matter is that THIS kind of thread is an example of the best and brightest attraction of the board.
Intelligent, thought-provoking people with something interesting to contribute about a movie, and era, history, actors etc and often all wrapped up on one post!
Very good thread guys! Enjoyed it!
My own two cents thrown in? I enjoy a good "historical" movie. In fact, they are my favorite. True, some movies of that genre
are way out of line with history and are more about some director's idea of entertainment or about making a "politically correct" statement of the times the movie was made than portraying history correctly in the period the movie portrays.
But as some of you have said here in this thread......first it is about entertainment. If it captures the imagination and the interest....and entertains us while filling us with a desire for more info on the period or "historical" characters in the movie...then the movie in my mind is a great success because not only has it entertained me, it has PROVOKED me to learn more about the subject period or characters.
Case in point....LOTM. This movie was, I believe, more historically correct than most, but there WERE errors in it. The fact the reenactors (who study the period) were utilized and consulted is what makes LOTM so believable. However, there are discrepancies. The thing is....look at the following that movie has generated as evidenced by this board! Look at the discussions on this board and the sharing of knowlege. Look at some of the members and posters! Some having participated in the movie. Some who participate in "living history" reenactments and have studied the subject deeply! Everyone has something to contribute - some insight - some fact or opinion that causes to think and ponder and re-evaluate! THAT all makes LOTM a great success in my mind. And........makes this Board a great success as well. As long as threads of this kind appear, this Board will be a delightful and interesting place to visit!
Loved the thread guys.
