It is always so interesting to here the BS about how Northern society came to realize slavery for the evil it was and come around toi doing "the right thing." However, the plain undeniable fact ios it had absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with doing the right thing. The only reason why the North legislated the use of Black troops, almost three years after the war started I might add, was the fact that Union troops wetre being soundly beaten in the field and with a growing number of Northerns wanting a quick end to the war, the Union government with the so-called Great Enmancipator used the plight of blacks to further his own political career, to Save The Union which was his first and foremost concern from the beginning to end, and to keep the Union from splitting further.

Copmparing Lee to the SS is very sad indeed! It is the Union Army and its government that guilty of the crimes you speak of. Grant himself iussued orders to have all contraband grabbed out of the fields before they could be recruited for Confederate service. Lee freed his slaves before the war started. Forrest freed his slaves and they chose to stay and fight with him. Union General Grant kept his slaves until approximately 6 months after the war ended saying,"Good help is so hard to come by" in response to why he did not free his slaves earlier.

I write this not only as an African American historian but as an African American who has researched his genealogy well and has discovered quite a bit of Gestapo activities by the so-called Negro loving North on blacks.
