Greetings Fellow Mohicanites!!!!

Sorry that I missed the great gathering this year, but I certainly do plan to join you all next time!!! This may sound funny, but when stationed in Korea my callsign was tomahawk07. When I returned to Fort Rucker, Alabama (the home of Army Aviation) I flew Apache Helicopters, but now that I'm out of the military, I want to be known as a Mohicanite!! I have often wondered why the Army names their aircraft after Indian Tribes?? The UH-1H Heuy, CH-47 Chinook, OH-58 Kiowa, Cheyenne, the new Comanche helicopter and UH-60 Blackhawk. Contrary to popular belief the UH-60 Blackhawk was not named after some dumb bird, but rather a very famous Indian Chief and tribe who use to live in the Chicago area. Believe me, I know, because I was a part of the big military P.R. campaign when Fort Bragg received their first model in January of 1981.

Anyway I am in need of some information. I have ordered the book (on the trail of...) from the Federicis, but it wont arrive for a few days. I have made reservations at the Carter House (Chimney Rock) for the 4th of July weekend and would like to plan a small trip for my family. What I would like to know is:

1. Is Fort William Henry on Lake James still standing and is it open for visitors to the site? Are there any gift shops in the area with Mohican memorabilia?

2. Bridal Veil Falls, there is a falls by the same name on Hwy 64 just west of the town of Highlands, N.C., but this obviously is not the one you all refer to. I would like to know the location, is it on private property, and can one visit it?

I know I am asking a lot, but any help would be deeply appreciated. I cant believe I was so dumb as to be stationed at Fort Bragg for 10 whole years and not venture any further west than Charlotte. After visiting the Asheville area for the first time this past Memorial Day weekend I have concluded that western North Carolina is one of the most beautiful places on the whole earth!!! Being a former military pilot who has flown to many placed around the globe I mean the former statement with all my heart!!!

Thank you all and take care

Tom
