In Reply to: DID ANYONE FIND MY FLAG @ THE BUNKHOUSE??? Re: Raffle items. posted by ANN on June 20, 1999 at 05:00:21:
: Hi all,
: Speaking of raffle items, there was a flag with another small yellow flag attached to the end of it, that came with the beautiful "INUIT STAR QUILT" that I won. I never saw it as I was leaving the bunkhouse. It may have gotten buried under the items on the long table.
: If anyone that cleaned up the bunkhouse found it, please kindly let me know. I thought that the small yellow attached flag had some significant info regarding the quilt.
: Many thanks.
: Mohican friend,
Yes, your flags were found as we were cleaning up, prior to closing the bunkhouse. Jo and I weren't sure if you had left them behind on purpose, or forgotten them or what but we weren't sure what to do with them - so Jo took them for her boys!! BUT DON'T WORRY!! I can soon replace them for you!! The 'white cross on blue background' is the 'SALTIRE', Scotland's own flag. The 'gold background with the red lion rampant' centre is the flag of the Scottish monarchy - it is flown from the rooftop when the monarchy are in residence at whatever castle it is being flown from, ie. Holyrood Palace, Edinburgh (which was the tartan of my kilt that I was wearing on Sunday night!) or Balmoral Castle in Aberdeenshire. Also, the Queen Mother can fly it at her home, Castle of Mey, in Caithness (northern tip of Scotland). Technically speaking, they should not be flying it. They are NOT hereditary monarchs of Scotland. However, since 1706, they have taken THAT over, as well as the people! (Sorry, I guess it's pretty obvious I am Not a monarchist! In spite of yesterday's wedding!!)
As for the 'Inuit Star' quilt - that was simply a bit fun I created as a result of Miss MMMM's postings!! I couldn't resist it and thought it might be a nice little thing for a raffle prize!! You almost didn't get it though! I had to ask Rich if he thought it would be appropriate, with Eric coming. I didn't want him to think we were ridiculing him or poking fun AT him, it was only a bit of posting fun!! Anyway, Rich seemed to feel that Eric would be OK with it! I didn't see his reaction to it, though I have been told it was positive. However, I still do hope he did not take offence!! But your reaction to winning it was certainly VERY POSITIVE - you seemed quite pleased at having won it!! So, I do hope you get a lot of pleasure from it!!
Anyway, if you would like replacement flags, please send me your 'snail' mail address and I will post them off to you! I'm sorry about that mis-understanding!! Take care, Ann.
