: I just read on the internet that Russel Means was arrested today along with some others at a demonstration in White Clay. Does anyone know any details about this? I feel bad that on such a holiday celebrating America's independance, those that are demonstrating what they beleive in are imprisoned. If anyone has any info on this, please let us know.

here is a little background from a fellow Cherokee compatriot & longtime AIM member on the situation:

I have not heard this. We are having problems in and around Whiteclay. This has been going on for sometime (years). The merchants in and around that area sell over 3 million dollars a year in alcoholic beverages, mostly beer, and mostly to the Indians from Pine Ridge. Pine Ridge is located just across the South Dakota border from Whiteclay and Gordon, NB.

We have been protesting this along with many incidents involving local cowboys ganging up on homeless Indians and beating the hell out of them. The city and state get a lot of revenue from arrests involving DWI and moving violations.
Get the Indian as drunk as possible, then wait till he gets in
his truck, pull him (or her) over, arrest them, set bail at $3,000.00, and then fine them $500.00 plus court costs. Nice system, huh?

Yesterday the Lakotas demonstrated in Gordon, NE. Gordon has been a hotspot for some time. Messages received this morning indicated a buildup of police in the area.
I anticipate more problems, especially if Russell has been arrested.

How do you spell Gestapo? BIA/ATF/FBI. I'll attempt to keep you posted.
