O'Siyo All ---

I have been away & been very busy playing "Mr.Mom" & in working with the new government of the Southern Cherokee Nation.

This morning I recieved the following report from a CNO brother of mine, who is a longtime AIM member (he was at the Knee in the 1970's, etc) and he just returned from Pine Ridge.

As was said, there are two sides to every story.

Good Morning Brother Champ ~

Thanks for the post. The trip went very well, but the situation was as I expected. For those American's who believe prejudice and racism is a thing of the past, they need to see what I see on almost a daily basis.
The truth: The Lakota Nation has worked for several years to peacefully resolve the problems concerning liquor sales across the Nebraska border. We are a capitalist society and loss of revenue always upsets those who lose it. The liquor store owners sell an enormous amount of liquor, mostly beer, per year (2-3 million dollars worth). Their biggest customers are the Indians coming across the border from the Pine Ridge reservation.
The two towns that have been involved have populations less than 100, and are located in the heart of ranch and graze lands. On weekends the cowboys come to town to "relax." This relaxation includes overindulging, whoring around, and beating up mostly defenseless Indians, and mostly those Indians who are drunk.
On several occasions Indians have been beaten to death. Autopsy reports indicate death from exposure, although the bodies show outward signs of beatings, cigarette burnings, and cuts and bruises.
Russell Means served notice to town officials that he and his group would come to town to talk with hopes of sitting down at the conference table. The officials called the governor and told him the Indians were armed and coming in force. Guess what? The governor sent the Swat Team in force and armed to the teeth.
A painted line was drawn on the highway leading into the town. The Indians were told not to cross the line. Russell and 9 of his comrades crossed the line, were wrestled to the ground and handcuffed, then thrown into a SWAT vehicle and carried off to jail. This was NOT shown on the local television station that night.
Imagine this. The same scenario only instead of Indians use blacks. Can you imagine the hell that would break loose?! The town would have been besieged with thousands of protesters, lawmen, television cameras, and etc.
I would like to send you a zerox from Russell's book. I did research and verified the statements and stories and know for a fact that all that is written is true. If you will send your snail mail address I'll forward a copy to you.
President Clinton's visit to the Pine Ridge reservation was a joke. Surprised?

Thanks for your support Wadv
