You are probably right, Marcia, about this being a thing of personal feelings and not explainable. As for the hope for what might have been (that has been much mentioned in the media too), that is part of what causes me to think of that comparison to royalty. Maybe because the idea that a son might cary on the legacy of the father as a politician seems so foreign in a democracy, but fits the picture of monarchy. Democracies where this has led to the election of famous offsprings (India, Pakistan, and a few others) seem to be not the "Western style" democracies, but those where large parts of the population still do think in terms of rule by heritage. But you are right, maybe I'm just applying a little too much logic here, and thereby overlooking that for many, heroism and leadership has more to do with feelings than with logic.
