Well, Sheriff Twigg, don't insult my poor kitty. I put her in the basket early this afternoon with the intention of coming straight to Miss Marcia's, and then I got waylaid in a good goss-, er chat session at the trading post, and poor kitty has been languishing inside this hot basket for the last hour. She's certainly going to regain her good humor as soon as she gets out and has a sip of something cool to drink. Do you suppose Miss Marcia still has that bottle of water she keeps cooling in the spring?

Dear me, sounds as if Miss Marcia has a whole host of rowdy guests to contend with. Before I go in, I'll just step around to the springhouse and see if I can locate that bottle myself - - save Miss Marcia the trouble. You go on in and see what's happening in there, and I'll be in in a few minutes.

Now shush, kitty. You can get out of the basket in a minute.
