: Well said, Gayle! I did think that the character of Cora was extraordinary also. Thanks for the insight on the book. I learned a lot of new things. It's been so long since I read the book. I was in seventh grade. That was almost six years ago. Maybe I ought to pick it up and read it again, huh? I agree with you completely.

Jess,

If you do decide to read the book again, you will find that six years makes a lot of difference in how you view it. Good classic literature has enough in it to be seen from different perspectives as you grow and mature and change your view of the world yourself, and I find this is the way with the Cooper novels. Concentrate on the character of Cora, and you will see that she is a remarkably intelligent and deep-thinking person. The older you get, the more you will appreciate her.

Gayle
