: : Well, as far as Doctor Mary is concerned, no one will ever
: : top the hunka hunka Leslie Nielsen as the Swamp Fox in the
: : '60s Disney version...he made the young Doctor Mary's little
: : heart go pitty pat almost as much as the totally babe-o-licious
: : Flint McCullough on Wagon Train! And what a great theme song...
: : "Swamp Fox, Swamp Fox, tail on his hat! Nobody knows where
: : the Swamp Fox is at!" Little bitty bow-leggity Mel has big
: : shoes to fill, if you ask me. And of course you didn't. Nobody
: : ever asks poor Doctor Mary anything. *sniff!! sniff*

: Hey Doc M,

: Who is better do you think as Francis Marion? There, somebody asked you!

: I remember Disney's version of Swamp Fox well. It was one of the things on TV that I waited for impatiently and every week hoped that Disney would have Frontierland and either Swamp Fox or Davy Crockett.

: And I remember thinking somehow that Fess Parker did a more believable job as Davy than Leslie Nielson did as Francis Marion.
: Both were hokey, by today's standards, but I peed myself every (Sunday?) hoping Disney would have one or the other on.

: On the other hand, having seen Leslie Nielson in some of his more ridiculous roles lately, going back and seeing him as Swamp Fox is hard to adjust to.

: And what is wrong with Bandy Legged Mel? He usually plays the stubborn rebel in his roles, the outlandish guy who dares the impossible, and NOBODY can get a fey, crazy look in the eye like he can. Seems to me his movie personality would fit right in with a man who would fight impossible odds stubbornly and rebel against accepted authority.

: His scottish accent in Braveheart sucked though. I'll give you that!

Well of course Doctor Mary was EXTREMELY young at the time! LOL!
And once Zorro came along, old Swampy was history, bay-bee!

I have deep personal problems with Mel, which I'm sure causes
him many a sleepless night. VBG! Something about his on-screen
persona irritates me exceedingly. You, of course, my Cootie-
Patootie, are free to like him. No doubt Dr. M's judgement
on these matters is seriously impaired by too many late
evenings at Bumppo's.

PS Thanks for asking! You know how Doctor M craves attention!
