The sound isn't too good in these scenes, but Hawkeye is speaking about his powder being wet; which is why the guys decide to split before the Hurons arrive so as to avoid a nastier confrontation. Muzzleloaders need dry powder to fire. If you look back at the scene when the group leave their respective canoes, Cora is dragging at least one weapon in the water, but I'm sure the others got pretty darn wet, too. Cheers.  Danalee

: : Exactly right, Danalee.  In addition to getting in and out of canoes, they also walked under the falls to the cave, and everything got even wetter.

It took me forever to understand some of the lines shouted out over the background noises, but I think we have most of them figured out now.  Those "misheard" lines have been a real source of amusement for us around here.  And the all time best one, in case you haven't read this in an old post or two, is Doctor Mary's interpretation of Duncan's final line...

: Marcia and I and a lot of posters have also noticed, that as far as what is heard and not heard in the movie, varies with the "sound system" you have on your/or attached to  your TV. Different sounds turn into words on different systems/new sounds are heard on different systems.
