Just figured I would clear up something so all know the difference.

There are many, many kinds of inhabitants in the fairy world and an enchanted forest. Some wear red caps of some form or another.

There is one group though, called Redcap, who are to beware of.
They are a particularly viscious form of Goblin who wear red caps hence they are called Redcaps. They are smelly, viscious, tricky, begrudging, even violent and murderous. They dye their caps periodically in human blood.

Totally unlike we kindly, industrious, cute little Gnomes who wear pointed red caps also. Our caps are of the finest soft doeskin and dyed with organic plant dyes to be a rich red color. We are family oriented, love our spouses and children, and are protective of the place we live, be we garden gnome, farm gnome, forest gnome etc.
We often work at night so as to be undisturbed. We work at night particularly when we are trying to help humans with our labor.

Our caps are much longer and pointed, while Redcap's cap is shorter and floppy. Our caps stay the same rich red color. Redcap's cap becomes brownish with age due to the nature of the dye used and therefore requires frequent re-dyeing. This bothers the Redcap not at all as he enjoys obtaining the particular dye used.

So - there you have it Mohicanland. The difference between we kindly Gnomes and Redcap. Beware the Redcap.
